The short version.........

:D The bots operate on word redundancy.

Spider/Crawler searches of the entire net tally exact word hits and add up the total hits a keyword receives.

Blind logic data harvesting.

Let's take the word (war) for example.

Assume the word (war) returns eight million hits per week as a statistical average.

Some lunatic decides to type No More War......copy and paste it as a document with a million repetitions.....

Upload or store the document for public net access on a hundred servers.

The bots see the document........add the repetitions as a total........jumps ninety nine more times......adds the same document.....moves on to keyword #2

We now have 99 million plus hits for the word (war),or a skewed 1200% increase over normal.

AI software goes to work and returns..........guess what ?

Global War is coming. :eek:


Disregard these predictions as junk and a waste of time.

Because that's exactly what they are.

For it to work you would have to assume that most people know what their talking about and that the people who do uses random forums a bot could get to.

No,I don't have it all figured out just yet.

A friend of mine in Washington (Works for MS) writes datamining software similar to what the bots use.

Her explanation is exactly the same as mine..............I was just passing the info along to state how prone it is to manipulation and glaring errors.

Nothing more.....nothing less.

Just thought some of the members might be curious as to how the bots actually operate and accumulate data.

The AI software they use that crunches the bot hits is out of my knowledge range.

A good C++/Cobol programmer could easily bias the sub routines to make the AI software spit out any result your heart desired.

Nah.......the data predictions are too questionable to bet the farm on.

More of a curiosity than a proven technology.

Ok, manipulation of technology aside, i can see how a web harvesting technique could give you a pointer towards wars, terror strikes etc... I would use that as a plus or minus on a bet, but not make my bet on it. But earthquakes? Unless Mother Nature publishes her own blog, that is just plain stupid.
